A Simple Morning Sea Moss Routine

Four steps, under a minute: take the jar out with your first drink, measure 2 tablespoons, add it to what you are already having, clean spoon back in the fridge.

A morning sea moss routine only works if it is boring. Two tablespoons, one thing you already do, no ceremony. Here is the short version.

The routine

1. Take the jar out with your first drink. Kettle on, jar out. Attaching the habit to something you already do without thinking is the whole trick.

2. Measure 2 tablespoons (30g). Use a proper measuring tablespoon, straight from the fridge while the gel is firm. That is one serving, once a day.

3. Put it into whatever you are already having. Coffee, tea, porridge, yoghurt, a smoothie — or straight from the spoon. Ours is blended with lemon, lime and cinnamon, so neat is genuinely fine.

4. Clean spoon, lid on, back in the fridge. Never a wet or licked spoon. This is what decides whether a jar reaches its use-by date.

That is it. Four steps, under a minute.

Making it stick

  • Same time, same trigger, every day. Not "in the morning" — "when the kettle goes on".
  • Front of the fridge, at eye level. A jar behind the leftovers gets forgotten.
  • Measuring spoon in the same place, not in the drawer with everything else.
  • Prep the night before if mornings are chaotic: overnight oats with the gel already stirred in means nothing to think about at all.
  • Missed a day? Carry on as normal. Do not double up to compensate — the stated serving is a daily amount, not a weekly quota.
  • Freeze half the jar on arrival if you know you will not finish it in time. Ice-cube tray, one serving per compartment.

If mornings genuinely do not work for you, take it in the evening. There is no evidence for a best time of day, and the consistent routine beats the theoretically optimal one.

Keeping it honest

Sea moss is a seaweed and contains iodine, which is why there is a stated serving rather than a "more is better" approach. The only authorised nutrient claims concern iodine: iodine contributes to normal thyroid function, to normal cognitive function, to normal energy-yielding metabolism, to the maintenance of normal skin, and to the normal functioning of the nervous system. Those statements are about iodine as a nutrient, not about sea moss as a whole, and we will not tell you a morning routine does anything beyond that.

The iodine figure for your batch is on the jar label and on our Lab Results page. Count any multivitamin, kelp or other seaweed supplement you take alongside it.

Speak to a GP or pharmacist first if you have a thyroid condition, take thyroid medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are considering sea moss for a child.

Two guides go deeper: how to use sea moss gel for servings, hot drinks, cooking and storage, and sea moss smoothie and breakfast recipes for six recipes with UK supermarket ingredients.
